London-based producers Loraine James and TSVI need little to no introduction.
James, a former The Collections cover star, is renowned for her freewheeling experimentalism and urgent narratives. Earlier this year, she debuted a new ambient alias called Whatever the Weather and released an eponymous (and excellent) full-length under the moniker.
Meanwhile, TSVI is perhaps best known for his work as part of Nervous Horizon – the trailblazing label he founded and helms alongside friend and fellow artist Wallwork. His own output, including his 2018-released debut album Inner Worlds, or his Stargate EP – which he shared as Anunaku – demonstrate his aptitude for stirring club cuts and percussive workouts.
Tomorrow (13 May), the pair will release a collaborative EP, 053, via AD 93. Recorded during the UK’s third lockdown – back when the pair were residing in the same Hackney Wick warehouse – the five-track release offers a snapshot into their emotions at the time. Their Crack Mix also offers a snapshot into their lives, largely the tracks they have been enjoying during their FIFA sessions of late.
Encompassing everything from Namasenda’s potent strain of adrenaline-laced club music through to fresh tunes from the likes of Knucks, PinkPantheress and WILLOW, Nicki Minaj and George Riley, the hour-long recording has been described by the pair as a tour through “pop and beyond”. Enjoy the ride!
