Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds’ share more details of upcoming album

Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds’ sixteenth studio album, Skeleton Tree, will be released on vinyl, CD and all digital platforms on 9 September 2016

Following a preliminary announcement last weekend Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds have officially announced the release of their upcoming album Skeleton Tree and its accompanying film One More Time With Feeling.

According to a press release the film, directed by Chopper director Andrew Dominik, will be the first chance to hear the new songs but is much more than just a simple performance piece. Dominik apparently drew on the tragic backdrop of the writing and recording of the album (Cave’s son, Arthur, died in a rock-climbing accident last year) to delve deeper into the mindset of the band. Interspersing interviews and footage of the band with Cave’s narration and rumination Dominik’s film add an extra sense of context to the album. Shot in 2D and 3D the film will apparently provide a portrait of the Bad Seeds as they prepare their most raw and intimate work to date.

The group began recording Skeleton Tree began in late 2014 at Retreat Studios, Brighton before recording some sessons at La Frette Studios, France in autumn 2015. The album was eventually mixed at AIR Studios in London earlier this year.

Skeleton Tree is released on 9 September with One More Time With Feeling screening globally the day before. Check out the artwork from Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds’ Skeleton Tree and a still from the film below. Cinema tickets and preorders are available from nickcave.com
