Toronto’s Dilly Dally are simultaneously poppy, fuzzy and grungey (and never more so the latter than when schlepping through city streets draped in a purple monster outfit in their video for most recent single, the defiant Purple Rage).

Their raspy-voiced soft grunge has gained plaudits across the board, and the extremely promising duo of singles so far has made us extremely excited for Sore, their forthcoming album, out 9 October on Partisan Records. The band are also on a UK tour in January. Check the dates after singer Katie Monks’ rundown of a top five of her choice.

This week, Katie of the band introduces us to TECH-NO-STALGIA (also known as her favourite video game themes). Take it away, Katie.

Here’s some tunes that remind me of the beautiful times I’ve had in my life, hanging out with my family and friends, growing up and learning about the world… through pools of neon blood, alien/mutant battles, adorable dinosaur adventures, and bad-ass babes that can morph into leopards made of fire. Anyone who hates on video games clearly doesn’t understand the great powers of TECH-NO-STALGIA.

01

Killer Instinct

My favourite game of all time. And the characters are WAY cooler than Mortal Kombat.

02

Sailor Moon

Ughh… I’m pretty sure this game sucks. But I just wanted to rep the Sailor girls <3

03

Perfect Dark

Clearly the best soundtrack of all these games. Very industrial influenced. Makes me hungry for loud machine guns and explosive weaponry.

04

Sonic the Hedgehog 3

Conspiracy theories will tell you that MJ himself wrote the songs for this game, but then once he started getting bad press in the early 90s, SEGA took his name off the credits, or at least ripped him off.

05

Yoshi's Story

Ever wanna wake your roommate up with THIS SONGG??

(Please note that this is the only Mario related game I will get behind. Mario blows, along with most of his friends. Baby Yoshi, you’re my guy).
