Rework

The Lovecall EP is a release from the Visionquest and Playhouse affiliated trio Rework.

The EP is the second release from Seth Troxler’s imprint Soft Touch, his “indie label” that was unveiled last year as an outlet for “folk”, “rock” and great music that hasn’t yet found its niche.

True to form, Lovecall is an off-kilter treat. First track Girl or A Boy has everything that was excellent about the 80s scrawled all over it, with fuzzed out synths and a killer vocal from Sascha Hedgehog who prowls around the chord shifts like a panther. We get bass heavy on the second track, Moon, which is as cosmic as its name suggests without losing any of the groove of the song that preceded it. It’s seriously dreamy stuff. Last on the EP, title track Lovecall, recalls epic highways, palm trees, and convertibles.

All in all, a release that speaks volumes of Troxler’s good taste and a masterclass from Rework in the art of the synth.
