FUTURE GARDEN

The Vault, Southampton | December 7

Future Garden began life when five close friends took to transforming student hovels into Southampton’s most sought after house parties, teasing revellers with a blend of house, disco and the occasional African beat. Their parties drew inspiration from iconic events such as the NYC ‘loft parties’ of the 70s, with a heavy focus on music.

FG graduated from house parties when efforts to find undiscovered and unique venues in Southampton came to fruition last December. Now, with their first birthday just around the corner, their key objectives remain intact, but an uncanny eye for an ideal bespoke setting has seen their reputation spiral. Four house parties and two church parties later, 100 loyal ‘gardeners’ found themselves beneath the paved tiles of Southampton’s city centre, in a little-known underground medieval vault.

Those lucky enough to snap up a ticket – in the 10 minutes before they sold out – were treated to an intimate six hours of dancing, beneath the 2.5m low-arching ceiling, with FG residents providing a choice selection of house and disco. Highlights of the night included listening to the crowd ‘na na na na’ their way through Noema’s Tribute edit of Ata Kak.

With big birthday party plans fast approaching, 2014 is set to be an exciting year for the south coast’s most vital upcoming party.
