Speedy Ortiz introduce “help hotline” for shows

“i’m hoping we can leverage our privilege as performers to help keep our friends in the crowd safer”

In an attempt to tackle “marginalizing actions and microaggressions” at their shows, Massachusetts four-piece Speedy Ortiz have launched a hotline that will alert the band to any harassment occurring at their shows when texted by an audience member.

“sometimes as a showgoer i’ve felt unsafe & didn’t know what to do”, tweeted Sadie Dupuis. “we’ll see how it goes but i’m optimistic … and if this hotline help system does seem to work, we hope other bands will set them up too. hint hint ;)”

If you’re at a gig and feel unsafe, you can text (574) 404-SAFE and the band will work with venue security to “get you out of harm’s way”.

See Sadie’s tweets and the full Facebook flyer introducing the project below.
