Sometimes it’s easier to glaze over the bad in your life with just sheer, silly fun.
Bruising’s Emo Friends seeks to encapsulate this feeling. The track’s about flailing helplessly onwards while you and your mates’ lives slowly but surely unravel, and trying to temporarily stem the flood of shit by going out and trying your best to have fun in an attempt to fly in the face of everything else falling apart.
Well, it seems that in this video their mates succeed for a little while at least. Foodfights, a limo ride and a karaoke party all feature – but while their mates laugh it up, the band remain stoic.
Ben of the band explains: “To read anything more into the video than just having an excuse to do as much daft, fun stuff in a day as possible is maybe too much. The idea was to kind of play on the whole ‘moody band’ in videos and photos thing cos we’re so far from that… Have loads of friends having the best time while we look pretty pissed off about the whole thing.
The end of Emo Friends is my favourite part of our set, it’s such a release to play, feels really cathartic, so I guess the food fight at the end is trying to capture that, and we all know there’s nothing more cathartic than getting punched in the face with a piece of chocolate cake.”
