Watch Matthew Herbert, James Holden and more talk creative blocks

A panel including Matthew Herbert, Young Guru, Phoebe Kiddo and James Holden sat down to discuss overcoming creative drought at Ableton’s Loop15

Making music can be difficult. For every breakthrough moment there are many, many debilitating lulls. At last year’s inaugural Ableton Loop conference one panel of musicians from various different backgrounds took on the subject of creative blocks. Those stretches of time where it feels like the ideas just won’t come out.

In the discussion, which you can watch above, Matthew Herbert, Young Guru, Phoebe Kiddo and James Holden discuss their methods for overcoming their periods of creative drought. It’s also a subject close to the heart of the panel’s moderator, Dennis De Santis, as he wrote a book compiling these types of strategies in his book Making Music.
