KMAH Radio to donate to homeless charity after police arrest robbery-suspect

The perpetrator of the theft at the Leeds-based community radio station has been arrested. In light of his problems with addiction and homelessness they have pledged part of their crowdfunded resources to Simon on the Streets

A fortnight ago KMAH Radio was robbed with more than £3,000 worth of equipment taken. They subsequently started a crowdfunding campaign to replace the gear that at the time of writing had reached 47% of its target at £2,360.

A man believed to have committed the theft has been arrested and is thought to have sold the goods on already. Given that the man arrested was homeless and suffered from drug addiction, coupled with the outpouring of support online, KMAH have promised to donate a portion of the money raised to local homeless charity Simon On The Streets.

A statement on Facebook reads: “The thief has been caught. You won’t be shocked to learn he is a homeless drug addict who was busted whilst doing another job in Leeds this week. He exchanged our gear for his gear, and that’s that. He’ll go to prison for a few months, then come out again with no prospects and a criminal record, only to repeat the cycle again. What he needs is treatment, not internment.”
