The XL Recordings producer has unveiled a timely Olympics-themed video for new song Frankie, too
XL Recording’s Powell made the announcement of his debut album Sport in trademark tongue-in-cheek fashion this week. Billboards displaying his email address were erected in London and New York, and those who contacted the producer were treated to the first word of his new album, Sport.
In one of the emails, shown below, Powell explains that the album’s playfulness inspired its cheery name, and outlines its his new vibe: “more plastic, more elastic, more surprising – for me, anyway.”
Powell has previously used a billboard to promote his single of last year, Insomniac, which showed a rant from Steve Albini complaining about Powell’s use of an Albini Big Black sample.
Check out the full email below, and listen to a new song, Frankie, below too. Sport will be released via XL Recordings on 14 October.
