Ice Cube is working with Disney on an Oliver Twist adaptation

Ice Cube will co-write, co-produce and star in the modernised reimagining of Charles Dickens’ classic tale, Oliver Twist

Ice Cube is no stranger to cinema, the rapper has previously starred in a host of films. From the much-loved Friday series to war drama Three Kings and even the family friendly Are We There Yet? his resume is actually pretty well-rounded. His latest venture, announced yesterday evening, is a Disney adaptation of Charles Dickens’ classic tale of rags-to-riches, Oliver Twist.

Ice Cube has signed on to play the character of Fagin, a ringleader for a gang of orphans who befriend Oliver and lead him astray. The rapper is also working on a treatment for the film alongside Jeff Kwatinetz and will co-produce with Kwatinetz and Marc Platt. The last time Disney adapted Oliver Twist was for the 1988 animated film Oliver & Company. Cube’s version, however, will be a modernisation of the story directed by Grease: Live! and Hamilton director Thomas Kail.
