Kate Bush talks visual albums, Bowie and feminism in rare interview

Ahead of her Before The Dawn live album dropping on Friday (25 November), the notoriously press-shy Kate Bush sat down with The FADER for an interview.

When asked about David Bowie, Bush said “He was such a brave artist, so unusual, and I loved his music. I met him a few times; he was really charming and playful. But I just sort of admired what he achieved creatively.” Elsewhere, she listed Tina Turner as one of the greatest live acts she’s ever seen and admitted to having not yet seen the newer instalments of Black Mirror.

On the topic of entering the male-dominated nature of the music industry, Bush said, “I was aware that it was very male-dominated. But what mattered to me was that I was able to make the whole experience a much more personal expression and to be able to experiment on my own terms.”
