Guitarist Michael Sanders was shot in the shoulder and is recovering

Local Austin musician and guitarist for the band Löwin, Michael Sanders was shot during an armed robbery on 10 March. The incident happened on Sander’s route back home from A Giant Dog’s show at the Hotel Vegas. Accosted by three masked men who jumped out from behind a bush near his home on Leona Street, his phone and wallet was stolen before he was later shot.

Thankfully, Sanders is recovering. As reported by The Austin Chronicle, he says, “It wasn’t as scary as it was matter of fact and surreal… my first thought to myself was ‘Oh my god, he shot me.’ My second thought was realising that it didn’t hurt as bad as I would have expected. As far as getting shot goes, it was a very clean shooting. I’m fortunate… because they were trying to kill me.”

He believes the attack was premeditated and that festival-goers are being targeted.

Sanders has now pulled out of the three shows Löwin were booked for at SXSW Festival.
