Lana Del Rey talks Elizabeth Taylor, Richard Burton and more with Courtney Love in new interview

In a feature with Dazed, the singer-songwriter discusses Hollywood with the Hole frontwoman

If there’s ever a juicy conversation to be had between two celebrities, one dream pairing would be Hollywood noir singer Lana Del Rey with 90s grunge icon Courtney Love.

While Del Rey has built her career around enigma and mystery, Courtney Love has always taken a more honest and raw approach. Where the two connect, however, are on themes of Hollywood, celebrity and fame. And Elizabeth Taylor.

In a conversation published on Dazed today (18 April), Courtney Love recounts the time she met Elizabeth Taylor with Carrie Fisher. She says, “I looked at Carrie and I said, ‘This is not worth it,’ and Carrie said, ‘Oh, yes it is.’ So we snuck upstairs and, Lana, when you go past the Warhol of Elizabeth Taylor as you’re sneaking up the stairs and it says ‘001’, you start getting goosebumps.”

She continues, “I’m like, ‘What am I doing here? I’m not Hollywood royalty.’ And the first words out of her mouth are, like, ‘Fuck you, Carrie, how ya doin’?’ She was so salty but such a goddess at the same time.”

Lana Del Rey concedes, “She was so salty. The fact that she married Richard Burton twice – and all the stories you hear about those famous, crazy, public brawls – she was just up for it. Up for the trouble.”

A release date for Del Rey’s forthcoming album, Lust For Life, is yet to be announced. So far, she’s released a teaser trailer along with the artwork and lead single, LoveShe’s also posted a snippet of a new song today via her Instagram.
