The release has been described as a “pre-techno compilation”

Dekmantel have announced that they’ve roped in techno stalwart Marcel Dettmann for the new Selectors compilationWith tunes handpicked by Dettmann from his own vinyl archive, the artist has described the selections as “pre-techno”. Encompassing music from the artist’s childhood, the tracklist journeys through the building blocks of his career.

“It was a great opportunity to dig deeper into my own musical outlook,” he explains in the press release. “The tracks come from a time before I became a DJ.”

In the liner notes of the compilation, Dettmann details his introduction to music: “In the early 90s, shortly after the wall came down in Berlin, I started getting into music. Like a lot of people, I got into Depeche Mode, who had recently released their Violator LP. Shortly after that, I inevitably discovered the music of Fad Gadget, DAF, Front 242 and Nitzer Ebb. I must have been 13 or 14 years old at that time.”
