Trance producer Robert Miles dies aged 47

The Swiss-Italian DJ and producer rose to prominence in the 90s for the number one hit Children

DJ Mag Italia reported today (10 May) that Robert Concina – better known as Robert Miles – passed away this morning due to a mystery illness.

The Italian native was widely celebrated for his iconic dance track Children in the 90s, which topped the charts in over 12 countries. His debut album Dreamland, released in June 1996, went platinum in Europe. In 1997, the producer won the Brit Award for best international breakthrough act.

He later withdrew from the limelight, releasing a number of more low-key albums such as 2001’s Organik and 2004’s Miles_Gurtu. He also founded Open Lab – a Balearic radio station with a more experimental sound.

His friend and colleague Joe T Vannelli has paid tribute to the artist. “The tragic news of the death of a very talented artist of our time, makes me incredulous and upset,” Vannelli said. “I will miss the fights, brawls, criticism, judgements but especially your talent in finding sounds and melodies unparalleled.”

More tributes have since followed, with messages posted from DJ Pete Tong and Boy George. Read the tributes below.
