St. Vincent’s new video for New York is an odyssey into kitsch

The first first single to be taken from St. Vincent’s forthcoming album has been giving a striking visual accompaniment.

Directed by visual artist Alex Da Corte, the video places the experimental artist at the centre of a number of kitschy tableaus and, we presume, cements the visual identity of the as-yet-untitled full-length. It is the first time Da Corte has created a music video. Discussing the work, Da Corte said: “I think Annie’s New York is the New York of my dreams – one that is blurry and fractured, dreamy and flat. It is the Toontown to my Hollywood.  It is beautiful but slightly out of reach.”

New York, St. Vincent’s first song in two years, was released in June. Her last album, St. Vincent, came out in 2014.

In October, the UK leg of her Fear The Future tour gets underway with shows in London, Manchester, and Dublin. You can buy tickets here. Watch the video via the player above.
