Watch the animated video for Nottingham band Kagoule’s Monsieur Automaton

We’re excited to be hosting the video premiere for Monsieur Automaton, the first new release this year from Nottingham alt-rock trio Kagoule.

The track was produced by Hookworms’ MJ and mixed by Spoon’s Jim Eno – no surprises then that it’s an intoxicating blast of experimental, fidgety art-rock. The story in the video is told through hundreds of illustrated frames – drawn by the band’s drummer Lawrence English and animated by Cape Town-based animator Adam Black.

In a press release, singer Cai Burns told the story of how the visuals came about. “Lawrence has always done the artwork for the band. It’s as much a part of Kagoule as the music, so it totally made sense to try and get it into a music video. He drew like a million drawings, wrote some whacky ass storyline (which I still don’t really understand) and then we realised that animation is HARD so we hit up an old bro of ours Adam Black to bring it to life.”
