Genesis P-Orridge cancels tour dates in wake of leukemia diagnosis

Genesis P-Orridge, co-founder of Throbbing Gristle and Psychic TV, has been diagnosed with chronic myelomonocytic leukemia and is undergoing a “new experimental chemo” and blood transfusions.

In a Facebook post, P-Orridge detailed how s/he’s battled with ongoing serious illnesses throughout her life. In the past year, s/he began to feel “more exhausted than usual” and “collapsed sick, lethargic and worn out”.

The post reads: “After about 14 hours, and lots of tests and scans we were rushed to the Presbyterian Hospital Oncology Wing. We had been diagnosed with Chronic Myelomonocytic Leukemia. Descrobed by my Doctors as ‘ a severe, life threatening blood disorder.'”

The Psychic TV tour, which was due to begin from 22 October, has been postponed as the artist is, according to a statement on Pitchforkundergoing treatment in New York. H/er Facebook post states: “This year Genesis P Orridge has had some major struggles with her health. During the last 2 months she has been hospitalized more than once. Her doctors have decided she should not travel at the present time in order to recover fully. Therefore all upcoming European dates will be postponed to 2018. We will announce once we know more.”
