Wes Anderson’s Isle of Dogs will open Berlin Film Festival 2018

The stop-motion movie will receive its world premiere at the 68th Berlinale on 15 February 2018.

Isle of Dogs will open Berlin’s international film festival – the first time an animated movie has done so. The film marks the fourth time that the director has had a film in competition at the Berlinale, following The Royal Tenenbaums, The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, and The Grand Budapest Hotel.

“I’m most delighted that Wes Anderson will kick off the Berlinale Competition again,” said festival director Dieter Kosslick on Monday (4 December). “Isle of Dogs will be the first animated film to open the Festival – a film that will capture audiences’ hearts with its Wes Anderson charm.”

Produced by The Indian Paintbrush, the comedy tells the story of a boy searching for his missing dog in Japan. So far, the first official trailer and the voice cast has been revealed. Heading up an all-star cast are Greta Gerwig, Bill Murray, Yoko Ono, Bryan Cranston, Jeff Goldblum, Kunichi Nomura, Akira Takayama, Tilda Swinton and Scarlett Johansson.

Isle of Dogs is scheduled for release in US cinemas on March 23, 2018, with an international release date set for April 2018.
