Very sad news.
Mark E Smith of The Fall has died, aged 60.
The news was announced by band manager Pamela Vander via The Fall’s Twitter news feed @fallnews. The statement has now appeared on the website of the label, Cherry Red Records.
The statement reads, “It is with deep regret that we announce the passing of Mark E. Smith. He passed this morning at home. A more detailed statement will follow in the next few days. In the meantime, Pam & Mark’s family request privacy at this sad time.”
The Fall, founded in Pretwich in 1976, went on to be one of the most influential post-punk acts in the history of British music. Across Smith’s life, The Fall released 32 studio albums and he collaborated with Gorillaz, Elastica, Coldcut, Mouse on Mars and more.
