Thom Yorke announced for 25th anniversary of Sónar Festival

Sónar Festival has made a huge artist announcement, adding over 50 artists to its 2018 line-up.

A landmark year for any festival, Sónar will celebrate its 25th birthday on 14-16 June in Barcelona. To mark the occasion, Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke will step up for a special performance on Saturday night (16 June), during which he’ll revisit tracks from his extensive career in a live mix with producer Nigel Godrich, with visuals by multidisciplinary artist Tarik Barri. Also included in the announcement are shows from Modeselektor, Yung Lean, Alva Noto, Octo Octa, Laurel Halo, Errorsmith, JASSS and more.

The Spanish festival are set to host a live performance from Fatima Al Qadiri, and Motor City Drum Ensemble has been confirmed for a set with Jeremy Underground. Other artists pairing up for performances include Amp Fiddler with Tony Allen, Sinjin Hawke with Zora Jones, Ben Klock with DJ Nobu, and DJ Earl with be connecting with Nick Hook for a live audiovisual show. Furthermore, Sónar have announced the screening of a monochrome audiovisual spectacle from Oscar Mulero.

In their first announcement, the three-day event confirmed former Crack cover stars Helena Hauff, LCD Soundsystem and Gorillaz for the stage. Previously, Sónar revealed that they’ll be attempting to reach extraterrestrial life by sending music into outer space. As part of their 25th anniversary celebrations, the initiative Sónar Calling GJ273b has recruited a roster of artists – including Nina Kraviz and The Black Madonna – for recordings to be transmitted beyond the limits of our solar system.
