Recently, the actress, model and musician announced her third studio album Dirty Computer, which played before the Black Panther screenings. Described as “an emotion picture by Janelle Monáe” in a teaser trailer, the album will be released with a narrative film project on 27 April.

“I actually had this title on this concept before my first album The ArchAndroid, and it scared me because a lot of the things that I knew that I needed to say were very deep, very personal, from the heart,” she said on Dirty Computer. “You know, this is an extremely vulnerable album and it took me a while to make it because I’m a self editor.”

Her last album was 2013’s The Electric Lady, released via her own imprint Wondaland and Bad Boy Entertainment.

Monáe will also star in the American drama The Women of Marwen, directed by Robert Zemeckis and due out in November 2018.
