‘The Shape of Water’ wins Best Picture at the 2018 Oscars

Capping off the biggest night in Hollywood, The Shape of Water has won the award for Best Picture.

Beating off Phantom Thread, Lady Bird, Call Me By Your Name, Darkest Hour, The Post, Get Out and Dunkirk, Guillermo del Toro’s epic about a mute maintenance worker falling in love with an aqua monster picks up perhaps the most prestigious prize of the night.

The award was presented by Faye Dunaway and Warren Beatty who made history last year when they mistakenly presented the Best Picture award to La La Land when it was in fact owed to Moonlight.

In his acceptance speech, director Guillermo del Toro spoke about growing up in Mexico and being inspired by foreign cinema, before encouraging young filmmakers to continue creating.
