According to a Page Six report, the Art Angels artist is dating the Tesla founder. The two met online after Grimes tweeted a joke on the complications of artificial intelligence – three years before Musk thought of doing so.
The article reads: “Thought experiment Roko’s Basilisk considers the hypothesis of a future where AI lords over the world and could punish those who did not help it into existence. His joke was to merge this thought experiment with a pun using ‘Rococo,’ referring to the ornate French 18th century baroque style, perhaps pointing out that both concepts are complex, too extreme and ridiculous.”
An insider told Page Six: “Elon was researching the idea of joking about Rococo Basilisk, and when he saw Grimes had already joked about it, he reached out to her. Grimes said this was the first time in three years that anyone understood the joke. They were both poking fun at AI.”
The publication broke the news before the Catholicism-themed Met Gala last night, reporting that the pair were planning on arriving together. Indeed, later, Grimes attended the event with Elon Musk for their “date night”, and according to US Weekly, Musk said the two “designed the musician’s dress together over dinner and commissioned a team to make it.” The art-pop auteur could also be seen wearing a Tesla choker.
The billionaire CEO has made no secret of being a Grimes fan in the past, having previously tweeted her Venus Fly video featuring Janelle Monáe, saying it was the “best music video art I’ve seen in a while.” He’s also shared some in-jokes online with the artist, having shown his approval for her playlist Go Flex & Psycho, to which Grimes replied with, “Glad ur finally listening to cyberpunk speedwae hahaha”. Musk responded, “Sounds great riding my cyborg”.
