IDLES announce new album Joy as an Act of Resistance

Bristol punk band IDLES has announced the follow-up to 2017’s Brutalism, entitled Joy as an Act of Resistance.

Addressing themes of “toxic masculinity, nationalism, immigration and class inequality”, the album will land on 31 August via Partisan Records. Accompanying the band’s announcement is the lead single and pro-immigration anthem Danny Nedelko, inspired by the frontman of up-and-coming band Heavy Lungs.

“This album is an attempt to be vulnerable to our audience and to encourage vulnerability; a brave naked smile in this shitty new world,” singer Joe Talbot explains. “We have stripped back the songs and lyrics to our bare flesh to allow each other to breathe, to celebrate our differences, and act as an ode to communities and the individuals that forge them. Because without our community, we’d be nothing.”

The band are set to embark on their first ever world tour this year. Watch the video for Danny Nedelko in the player above, and check out the tracklist below. The album can be pre-ordered here.
