Grimes teases new music

Grimes

Grimes has shared snippets of new music online via Twitter.

Posting two videos to her channel, the first is captioned with: “well i said i’d post some snippets of new music earlier so this prob sounds terrible thru my phone recording but it’s the cheesy love song i was talking about that i don’t like but everyone else likes, made the instrumental w my new mellotron!” The aforementioned track refers to a tweet she posted in May, in which she mentioned she’d been working on “a super lame love song i hate but other ppl dig”.

In the second video, the Art Angels artist shared her “cyberpunk interpretation” of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s 2015 Bollywood film Bajirao Mastani. Listen below.

Recently, Grimes lent her vocals to the track love4eva by the K-pop girl group Loona. Made up of four sub-groups, the yyxy unit of Loona – comprised of members Chuu, Yves, Go Won and Olivia Hye – teamed up with Grimes for their 17th single after they connected via Instagram.

In May, Grimes shared a tracklist of working song titles for her new album. Though a release date is yet to be confirmed, the artist has affirmed that it’ll be out this year. In 2017, the pop auteur revealed she was working on an album of “unexplored sonic landscapes”. Speaking to Rolling Stone in April, she said she was “halfway done with another record”, comprised of “more chill vibes, downtempos, synth-y shit”. Last month she revealed, “I have a deep well of shit this time, like sooo many songs so after my album I’ll be able to consistently release new music.”
