Watch a dreamlike (and NSFW) video from Montreal performance artist Bernardino Femminielli

From Brel to Momus, Gainsbourg to Iggy, a great many artists have essayed the faded, red-curtained glamour of the cabaret.

Performance artist Bernardino Femminielli is a natural successor to these lounge lovers and bedevilled barflies. Part of Montreal collective Bunni Groupe – which includes Marie Davidson among its number – and a former member of Dirty Beaches’ band, Femminielli presses sleazy electronics and insinuating, half-whispered vocals into the service of debauched stories and demi monde-ish characters. It’s a distinct style, and one that he perfected in 2016 with his Plaisirs Américains LP, released on MIND Records and Bethlehem XXX.

Today, we’re hosting the video premiere of his latest work, Daddy’s Boy. Dreamlike, sensual and suggestive, the song is tells the story of The Entertainer who, in the words of Femminielli, is “repulsed, betrayed and blinded by his need for love”. The clip features Jakob Emil Lamdahl Pedersen from Marching Church, while Pierre Guerineau from Essaie pas work on the production of the music.
