Watch an eerie new video from Presto!? newcomer Mechatok

Mechatok first jumped on our radar back in 2016, when his debut EP See Thru landed on Staycore, the label affiliated to the future-facing Swedish collective.

Since then, he’s steadily built up a reputation as an experimental pop producer with an off-beam vision, providing the instrumental for Uli K and Yung Lean’s Schemin and remixing Sinead Harnett. Now, with new EP All My Time, he makes his debut on Presto!?, the label run by Lorenzo Senni.

But who is Mechatok? The producer – real name Timur Tokdemir – was born in Hamburg but currently calls Berlin home. Intriguingly, he is trained in classical guitar, and you can clearly discern his ear for melody and fine, filigree detail in his club productions. It’s a characteristic that’s likely not lost on Lorenzo Senni, whose own trance pointillism echoes in Mechatok’s stippled synths and almost oppressive pop melodies.

Flee – today’s Crack Magazine video premiere – is, to our ears, the standout cut off All My Time. Although the track is shot through with effervescent maximalism, the video itself casts a new light on the unchecked uplift. Directed by Kim Laughton, the visual is a frictionless tour through CGI landscapes that feel like concept stills from Blade Runner 2049. Watch the video above.
