Sam Mehran, a founding member of Test Icicles, has passed away.
The cause of death is currently unknown. News of his death came from Zak Mering of GunkTV Records on 29 July. In an online post he wrote, “You will be sorely missed and loved by many forever.”
“The most talented Musician I’ve ever had the pleasure of being close friends with. I know you’re in a better place brother. You will not be forgotten.”
Mehran formed Test Icicles in 2004 with Rory Attwell, and the pair were later joined by Dev Hynes. The trio released their debut For Screening Purposes Only in 2005, and disbanded in 2006. Mehran went on to release two solo albums as Outer Limit Recordings, and recorded as Matrix Metals. Recently, he was credited as a co-producer on Ssion’s LP, O.
Tributes to Mehran have been posted online via social media. Read them below.
R.I.P Sam Mehran
i’m in shock, such sad news.— Steven Warwick (@SstevenwarwickK) July 29, 2018
So sad to hear Sam Mehran died – so many different sounds, but always an incredible fusion, you wouldn’t believe was possible, of psychedelic unreality and lucid, transportive evocation, a waking dream music. RIP. https://t.co/zETdGSnRNX
