Watch Pussy Riot’s trippy videos for КОШМАРЫ / NIGHTMARES and PONG!

Pussy Riot have released two accompanying visuals for their brand new tracks.

Earlier this month the art and protest collective announced, via an interview with Crack Magazine, that they’d be releasing two pummelling, hardcore-style gabber tracks called КОШМАРЫ / NIGHTMARES and PONG! Now, they’ve released the two songs with animated visuals produced by member Nikita Chaika.

КОШМАРЫ / NIGHTMARES is the collective’s take on the Russian prison chanson. A partial cover of the late Dina Vierny’s Nightmares, the song has been described as a “creepy and nightmarish tale” about incarceration. The Chaika-produced video is a trippy elucidation of Russian prison conditions, with lyrics calling out the injustice of the country’s imprisonment laws.

The accompanying video for PONG! is a retro-style offering with video games depicting the group’s 2013 Punk Prayer protest, during which they criticised the Orthodox Church’s support for Putin at a Moscow cathedral. Both tracks call for the release of Russian political prisoner Oleg Sentsov, who is currently serving a 20-year prison sentence.

Recently, four members of the group were sentenced to 15 days in jail, following on from their pitch invasion during the World Cup Final between France and Croatia. An online statement from Pussy Riot claimed responsibility for the invasion shortly afterwards, accompanied by a list of demands. Last week the group released the video Track About Good Cop, which demands the release of their members.
