Grimes features on Poppy’s new single Play Destroy

The long-awaited collaboration between Grimes and Poppy has landed.

The track, entitled Play Destroy, features on Poppy’s new album Am I a Girl?, released today. The collaboration was first teased in March, when Grimes posted a since-deleted photo of herself with the internet sensation, captioned with “soon”.

On how the collaboration began, Poppy told NME, “She followed me on Twitter, then I sent her a message and said ‘hi, I like you. We should make a song together’. Then we made a couple of songs together actually. She’s really talented.”

“She’s really good with synthesisers and we wanted to take the song in more of a heavy direction. She’s great at melodies. I write pop music a lot. It’s her element which is a lot more abstract,” she added.

Earlier this year, Grimes collaborated with Janelle Monáe on the track PYNK, and K-Pop girl group Loona on love4eva. She’s also confirmed the follow-up to the 2015 LP Art Angels and revealed the working tracklist. While a release date is yet to be announced, the artist said that it’ll be “realistically, fall”.
