Diagonal boss Powell and famed photographer Wolfgang Tillmans are joining forces for a project called Powell Tillmans.
Powell Tillmans are set to release the collaborative EP Spoken by the Other on 16 November via XL Recordings. The first single, entitled Feel the Night, has been shared today (17 October) and it features Tillmans’ voice against Powell’s instrumentals.
“I think a lot of Wolfgang’s work is to do with vulnerability,” Powell says via a press statement. “This vulnerability is captured flawlessly on Feel the Night.”
The accompanying video has been filmed by Tillmans, who also co-directed the visual with Michael Amstad and Anders Clausen.
The EP isn’t the first time the two artists have linked up. They’ve performed audiovisual live shows together, and Tillmans directed the video for Powell’s track Freezer last year. In February, Tillmans released the five-track EP Heute Will Ich Frei Sein. His track Device Control featured on Frank Ocean’s 2016 video album Endless. Powell’s latest release is 2017’s mini-album New Beta Vol. 2 – the second and last chapter to his New Beta series.
