Ryuichi Sakamoto remixes Oneohtrix Point Never track Last Known Image of a Song

Ryuichi Sakamoto, Oneohtrix Point Never

The Japanese composer has remixed a track by Oneohtrix Point Never, taken from the 2018 album Age of.

Entitled Last Known Image of a Song, the original cut is the closing track to Oneohtrix Point Never’s latest LP. The producer, real name Daniel Lopatin, has previously called the epilogue a “shrug emoji in song form.”

In October, Lopatin announced that he’d enlisted Ryuichi Sakamoto for a forthcoming EP titled Love in the Time of Lexapro. He told KCRW“Ryuichi contributed a very interesting remix of another tune from the album that we won’t be playing during this session. But it’s quite beautiful, as you can imagine.”

It’s not the first time the pair have collaborated together. In 2017, Sakamoto released Async Remodels, an LP featuring remixes of tracks from the async album, helmed by Oneohtrix Point Never, Arca and more. On Lopatin’s remix, he told Crack Magazine, “I’ve been a pretty big fan of 0PN’s work for a while now. After he attended some of my performances the last couple years we kept in touch. He was a natural choice for a remixer for me and I was curious to see what he would do.”

“His treatment of andata is more minimal than I expected,” he added. “I was impressed with his skill as a keyboardist. He really can play! And his touch is really sensitive and delicate!”

Earlier this year, Sakamoto performed the improvised live show Two with Alva Noto. Lopatin is set to bring his MYRIAD ‘concertscape’ to the Roundhouse in London on 8 March 2019. It’ll feature live visuals from long-time collaborator Nate Boyce, along with Kelsey Lu and the MYRIAD ensemble Kelly Moran, Aaron David Ross and Eli Keszler.

Love in the Time of Lexapro will be released on 23 November via Warp. Listen to Ryuichi Sakamoto’s new remix below.
