Bikini Kill announce reunion shows

The riot grrl originators announce their first live shows in 22 years.

Yesterday (16 January) Bikini Kill revealed that they would be reuniting for three live dates in New York and LA. Save for a one-off performance in 2017, these are the first full live shows that the band will perform since disbanding in 1997.

A statement released via the Bikini Kill website broke the news. The announcement reads: “Bikini Kill are thrilled to announce they will be regrouping to play shows in NY and LA this spring. They will perform with their iconic line-up of Kathleen Hanna on vocals, Tobi Vail on drums, and Kathi Wilcox on bass – along with guitarist Erica Dawn Lyle.”

The statement confirms that only three out of the four original members will appear on stage, with Erica Dawn Lyle standing in for guitarist Billy Karren. The band have yet to announce details of any new material or further live dates.

Bikini Kill will begin their mini reunion tour with a date at LA’s Hollywood Palladium on 25 April. Then, on 31 May and 1 June, they will play Brooklyn Steel and Terminal 5 in New York. Tickets will go on sale on 18 January.

The iconic riot grrrl group formed in 1990 and released three albums; Revolution Girl Style Now!, Pussy Whipped and Reject All American. After Bikini Kill broke up in 1997, lead singer Kathleen Hanna went on to form Le Tigre.
