Powder inaugurates new Beats in Space mix series with Powder in Space

Powder in Space, the first instalment of a new mix series from Beats in Space, will be released on 15 February.

Tokyo-based DJ and producer Powder, otherwise known as Momoko Goto, has revealed that she will issue a new mix on CD and 12-inch vinyl. Entitled Powder in Space, the mix will comprise of 18 tracks, including two new songs, New Tribe and Gift, alongside Daphne’s 1993 deep house track When You Love Someone (Groove Instrumental) and the first ever release of Samo DJ and Hidden Operator’s Захват Сзади Rox.

The issue is the first in a new series from Tim Sweeney’s Beats in Space Records which aims to explore dance music’s form and relation to time. In a description accompanying the CD listing, Goto notes music’s power to “stop the clock” and “expand or shrink our sense of time.” The mix is set for release on the same date as the Beats in Space radio show’s 20th anniversary.

Selected as one of Crack Magazine’s 50 most exciting DJs in the world, Goto first came to attention with 2015’s Spray, issued via Samo DJ’s Born Free Records, and 2016’s ESP Institute-released EP Highly. Since then, she’s played DJ slots across Asia, USA and Europe, cementing her reputation with a distinctive style that can carelessly encompass anything from beat-less ambient to upbeat house.

Powder in Space is now available for pre-order via Piccadilly Records. Listen to Powder’s exclusive mix for Crack Magazine and watch the video for New Tribe above.
