Massive Attack’s career to be chronicled in new book Out of the Comfort Zone

Massive Attack

A new book will tell the story of Massive Attack and their place in Bristol’s music scene.

Penned by author Melissa Chemam, Out of the Comfort Zone is due to be released on 4 March via Tangent Books. It’ll feature interviews with Portishead, Tricky, Smith & Mighty, Roni Size and more.

Billed as a study into the band and their influences, Chemam traces Massive Attack’s development through decades of social change in Bristol, from the band’s beginnings in Bristol’s Wild Bunch hip-hop crew to widespread recognition and critical adulation. Along the way, the book will take an in-depth look into their albums such as the seminal LP Mezzanine, and their art projects outside of the group.

Out of the Comfort Zone will be launched with a talk at the British Library with journalist Miranda Sawyer, London, on 14 March.

Massive Attack are currently engaged in their Mezzanine XXI tour, a string of international dates celebrating their 1998 album Mezzanine.
