Grimes has revealed the details of her upcoming album.
Entitled Miss_Anthrop0cene, the LP is set to be an “ethereal nu-metal” concept album based on “the anthropomorphic Goddess of climate Change”. The Canadian artist also hints that a new EP and a number of singles may be released before the upcoming full-length.
In an Instagram post, she describes the protagonist of the LP as a “psychedelic, space-dwelling demon/ beauty-Queen who relishes the end of the world”. While climate change is “only ever confronted with in a sad/ guilty way”, Grimes wishes to “make climate change fun” on her next album.
She also confirms that lead single We Appreciate Power will be the album’s opener, serving as an introduction into a “pro-AI-propaganda girl group who embody our potential enslavement/destruction at the hands of Artificial General intelligence”. Elsewhere, on the LP, each song will be “a different embodiment of human extinction as depicted through a Pop star Demonology”. Read her post below.
Last week, Grimes announced that the album would be delayed due to it being “2 ambitious”, and released a demo called Pretty Dark to tide fans over. Miss_Anthrop0cene will be the follow-up to 2016’s Art Angels. A release date is yet to be confirmed.
