Paris nightclub Concrete to close next month

After months of legal battles, popular Parisian nightclub Concrete will be closing its doors on 21 July.

Concrete has today released a statement confirming it is due to close next month. The statement explains that Concrete has been unsuccessful, after months of negotiations, in securing an agreement with the company that runs the barge which houses the venue.

“Concrete is a dream we would have loved to continue building at the Port of the Rapée for a few more years, but the reasons you already know will force us to stop the adventure soon,” said the club’s music curator, Brice Coudert. “We are not going to hide from you that we are extremely sorry and that it is very hard for us to write you this message. But we are already looking to the future, to come back stronger, with the same values, and put our experience and know-how in an even more ambitious project and on which we will strive to erase the defects that we have been criticized for until today.”

Earlier in the year, the club released an appeal for support after revealing they had been given a 15-day eviction notice. They set up a petition in May, which was supported by DJs as well as the Deputy Mayor of Paris Frédéric Hocquard. At the time, Hocquard stated: “Concrete is one of the main clubs that animates and really lights up Parisian nightlife… In just a few years, this place has become one of the hearts of techno music and the revival of Paris nightlife. This heart must not stop beating.”

Although the clubs tenure may be coming to an end in July, the statement added that the team behind the venue are working on  “an even more ambitious project” to follow Concrete.

Furthermore, the club has announced plans for a final closing party on 19 and 20 July. The closing party will run in true Concrete style, starting on Friday and continuing non-stop until Sunday. The line-up is still TBC.
