The band are playing a free gig tonight in their hometown in support of Extinction Rebellion.

Beak> have announced an impromptu free gig tonight (17 July) in Bristol in support of Extinction Rebellion. Activists are currently occupying some areas of the city, protesting the climate emergency in a five-day occupation. In posts made on their social media yesterday (16 July), Beak>, revealed a show at Bristol Bridge tonight at 7.30pm (GMT), where a large amount of the city-wide protest is taking place.

Extinction Rebellion have been occupying and protesting in Bristol since 15 July along with four other UK cities including London, Leeds, Cardiff and Glasgow, with aims to raise awareness of the current climate emergency in what they are calling a #SummerUprising. In each city, protesters have been using large boats to block traffic. On 15 July a large pink boat marked with “tell the truth” blocked the M32 in Bristol by Bristol Bridge, where Beak> are set to play tonight.

The occupation of Bristol Bridge continues today, with Bristol Live reporting that there is stationary traffic around Temple Way, near Bristol Bridge, and protesters saying they hope to block the motorway for “as long as possible”.

Extinction Rebellion, or “ER”, are an environmental protest group, campaigning again the climate crisis and the risk of social and ecological collapse. They describe themselves as an international “non-violent civil disobedience activist movement”. The group’s largest protests were in April this year, when activists brought the city of London to a standstill for 11 days, with over 1,100 protesters arrested.
