Manchester’s renowned party-starters Homoelectric have released details for their debut festival at the Mayfield Depot, Homobloc. The Black Madonna, pop-superstar Robyn (for a DJ set), Midland, Róisín Murphy, Honey Dijon, Jayda G, Haai, and Romy, are just some of the names announced for the one-day event on 9 November.
Joining them on the billing is Berlin-based Proshumer, Hunee, Crazy P, Optimo, Horse Meat Disco, Palms Trax, Dan Beaumont, and Homoelectric resident Jamie Bull. Local DJs and promoters are also getting a look-in, with Manchester’s Blasha and Allatt, High Hoops and Kiss Me Again also featuring on the line-up.
Homobloc will be spread across 4 stages and sticking true to Homoelectric’s ethos the event will be a “melting pot of music genres” with everything from Afrobeat to boogie, disco, garage, house, techno and more represented at the festival. The festival’s mission statement is clear: “A heartfelt felt evangelism that is about believing in something. A come as you are celebration that’s not about exclusivity, on the contrary, the more the merrier.”
Homoelectric began two decades ago in Manchester and has grown into one of the city’s most popular LGBTQ+ parties. Their debut festival aims to celebrate this. Homoelectric founder Luke Unabomber says: “It’s with great excitement, after two decades of blood sweat and tears from our first home in a Manchester back-street club, we are planning our very own Homoelectric festival. We have finally found our holy grail place. This is something very special and as ever this is all about uniting the clans, togetherness, inclusivity and love. Building a place where we can bring together all our people and our heroes and dance ’til we are free. A queer block party for all.”
