The Jazz Cafe to pay homage to Elliott Smith with special 50th birthday performance

The Jazz Cafe presents Inside the Mind of Elliott Smith – a posthumous birthday celebration of the cult musician.

London’s The Jazz Cafe is running an event to celebrate and commemorate the life and music of the late Elliott Smith. The cult singer-songwriter would have been celebrating his 50th birthday on 6 August and to mark it The Jazz Cafe will host the contemporary folk ensemble Tell Tale Tusk for a performance of his rich and varied discography. Tickets are for the show are on sale now.

Elliott Smith was a multi-instrumentalist; breaking out in the 90s, he went against the grain of popular conceptions about songwriting culture. “The 90s marked an anti-singer songwriter movement where even using your own name as your alias would cue sniggers from the musical elite,” Gunseli Yalcinkaya wrote in their article on Smith’s legacy for Crack Magazine, “Smith broke down these misconceptions.”

Tell Tale Tusk are a three-piece contemporary folk group known for their intimate retelling and exploration of folk songs old and new.
