Nu-Groove Records co-founder Judy Russell has died
Judy Russell, co-founder of Nu-Groove Records and Downtown 161 died last week.
DJ Scribe, aka Ben Goldfarb, broke the news on Instagram earlier today, explaining that Russell had died of cardiac arrest last Tuesday (2 July). She was 63 years old.
As a founder of Nu-Groove, Russell was a pillar of the New York dance world, releasing records by the likes of the Burrell brothers and Frankie Bones. Her work at Nu-Groove and beyond was central in the development of New York’s house and dance music scenes.
