Pharmakon announces fourth album Devour

Pharmakon’s upcoming release arrives on 30 August via Sacred Bones.

Pharmakon, the solo experimental music project of New York City-based Margaret Chadiet, has a new album coming entitled Devour. The LP will arrive via the New York label Sacred Bones on 30 August, and is the artist’s first release since 2017’s Contact.

Chadiet has also shared the first new single off the 5-track album, Self-Regulating System. Together the tracks will “use the imagery and language of self-cannibalism to address the self-destructive nature of humans”.

Devour was recorded with Ben Greenberg from the New York industrial band Uniform, and is Chardiet’s first live studio-recorded album. Each side has been recorded as a continuous take, which according to mxdwn.com, was done in order to capture the experience of her live sets, and the visceral themes which encompass Pharmakon’s body of work.

“This album is dedicated to all who were lost to their own demise, all who have been institutionalized; whether in prison, psychiatric facilities, or drug rehabilitation,” said Chardiet. “It is for all those ostracized by and isolated from a totality which chews them up alive in a self-cannibalizing caste system.”
