Pop Kultur Berlin unveils live acts and speakers including Mykki Blanco and Anna Calvi

Berlin festival reveals a line-up of music and talks focused on inclusiveness.

Pop Kultur Festival in Berlin has announced a full line-up for 2019 which includes guests speakers and panel discussions in addition to live acts. Mercury Prize-nominated Anna Calvi, America duo CocoRosie and Swedish singer Jenny Wilson are among the performers announced. Also set to perform will be Mykki Blanco, Die Goldenen Zitronen, alyona alyona, Lisa Morgenstern, One Mother, Station 17, Planningtorock, and Shabazz Palaces.

Alongside the live acts, Yesim Duman’s commissioned project Pop Hayat is also taking place. The series features several talks and panel discussions with a political and cultural focus highlighting the importance of inclusiveness. It includes talks with DJ Ipek and Nuray Demir and a panel with Emotional Labor Queen, Hengameh Yaghoobifarah and Planningtorock titled ‘Let’s Talk About Gender, Baby’.

Aspects of this year’s talks will also focus on the recent rise of female DJ and music collectives and identity politics in pop music. There will also be a discussion on ‘The Importance of an Independent Music Journalism’. Speakers include Mariana Berezovska (BORSHCH), Dennis Pohl (Spex), Alexis Waltz (Groove, Moderation) and Crack Magazine’s own Louise Brailey.
