Missy Elliott releases surprise EP Iconology

After a 14 year wait, pioneering hip-hop artist Missy Elliott has surprised fans with a new EP, Iconology.

The project is a modest 14 minutes long, and comprises only five short tracks. Iconology marks Elliott’s first record since 2005’s The Cookbook, which sold over 657,000 copies. 

Sharing news of the drop via Instagram, Elliott stated: “This year has been a tremendous year for me…I am humbled and grateful”. The artist continued, “Let’s #ThrowItBack to a time when music just felt good and made us want to dance!”. Elliott shared her album hours after announcing that The Museum of Missy Elliott will be opening on 632 Broadway, New York this weekend. 

The rapper has has also unveiled an accompanying video to Iconology‘s opening track, Throw It Back, a piece that stylistically harks back to Elliott’s breakthrough video The Rain. Take a look at the album’s artwork and tracklist below.
