The international art and music event returns this month.

The third edition of Festival Magia heads to downtown Rotterdam on 23-24 August. Located in the city’s arts district, the event will host a programme of live performances, film screenings, art, a talk show and a series of Magia by Night events.

Red Light Radio boss Orpheu the Wizard is set to headline a Magia at Night event, and there’ll also be a performance from artist and politician Penny Penny. Also confirmed is Japanese folk artist Sachiko Kanenobu – who will be performing her 1972 debut album Misora – and a rare performance by Ethiopian artist Sosena Gebre Eyesus. Furthermore, Magia has added an experimental show by jazz musician Ronald Snijders to the schedule.

Magia by Night’s after-hours programme at the clubs Mono and Worm will also feature Digital Zandoli, Mim Suleiman, Derozan and Pilon.

Beyond music, the festival will host a retrospective exhibition based on Chilean artist, activist and poet Cecilia Vicuna. Its programme of screenings will feature the premiere of the restoration of the 1992 film Babylon, which delves deep into London’s Jamaican reggae scene.

Magia will also open a vinyl market on site, along with a pop-up version of Amsterdam’s Rush Hour Store. There, Operator Radio will head up a talk show with a selection of artists from the festival.

The majority of the indoor and outdoor music events will be free of charge, with the exception of the Magia by Night events and some screenings. For more information, head to the festival’s website.
