The cult singer-songwriter passed away following a heart attack.
The singer-songwriter Daniel Johnston has died aged 58 following a heart attack.
Johnston’s work has a huge impact on US indie and attracted a cult following with many high profile musicians, including Kurt Cobain, citing the songwriter as an influence. Last night Jenny Lewis, Yung Lean, Ezra Furman, El-P, Daniel Avery, Zola Jesus and many more shared their sadness at the news of his death.
Johnston was also known for his illustration and art, most famously his drawing of a frog with the caption Hi, How Are You? which served as the artwork for his album of the name. Jonhston recorded 17 albums in total, his most recent release was 2012’s Space Ducks.
