Shabaka & the Ancestors announce new album We Are Sent Here By History

The jazz outfit will share their Impulse! debut on 13 March.

Shabaka & the Ancestors have announced their new album We Are Sent Here By History. Due for release on 13 March, the record will be the ensemble’s first on legendary jazz imprint Impulse!. Ahead of the album’s release, the group has shared the lead single Go My Heart, Go To Heaven.

We Are Sent Here By History – which follows 2016’s Wisdom of Elders – is billed as an album-long sonic poem. Shabaka Hutchings – whose other projects include The Comet Is Coming and Sons of Kemet – said: “We Are Sent Here by History is a meditation on the fact of our coming extinction as a species. It is a reflection from the ruins, from the burning. a questioning of the steps to be taken in preparation for our transition individually and societally if the end is to be seen as anything but a tragic defeat. For those lives lost and cultures dismantled by centuries of western expansionism, capitalist thought and white supremacist structural hegemony the end days have long been heralded as present with this world experienced as an embodiment of living purgatory.”

Simple Things brings Shabaka & the Ancestors to Bristol’s Trinity Centre in May. Click here for more information.
