The 2020 Grammy Awards featured a homage to the Purple One.
Last night’s Grammy Awards saw FKA twigs, Usher and Sheila E. pay tribute to Prince with a performance of Little Red Corvette, When Doves Cry and Kiss. Usher was on lead vocals, while Sheila E. supported with backing vocals and drums. twigs did not sing but took to the stage with a pole dance routine and appeared as a dancer throughout the performance. Watch the five-minute tribute via the player above.
On twigs’ role during the show, Sheila E. told USA Today, “She didn’t want to sing. First she wanted to, but then she didn’t want to when we ran through it because she didn’t have a (microphone) pack and (in-ear monitors), so she couldn’t hear. And she would rather have danced – which is what we asked her as well. She chose not to, she said ‘No, I’m OK.’”
The former Crack Magazine cover star tweeted today (27 Jan): “Of course I wanted to sing at the Grammys. I wasn’t asked this time but hopefully in the future. Nonetheless what an honour.” [sic]
